Ancient protection symbols rendered in oxidized colors decorate the regal stacked lozenge motifs that cross this stunning antique Yomut rug from East Turkestan.

Yomut rug, Central Asia , Early 20th Century – This sophisticated antique Yomut rug from Central Asia features a magnificent weighted composition that is constructed around a series of elaborate stacked lozenges. Evoking the principles of infinite rapport, the elongated field features a row of grand stacked lozenges flanked by partial motifs that are arrested by the decorative borders. Contrasting outlines, decorative stars, angular ram’s horns and auspicious symbolic motifs are artfully incorporated into each grand lozenge. The decorative borders are equally impressive with their coffered double ram’s horn motifs, which are rendered in contrasting colors. Magnificent guard bands with S-hook symbols rendered in a complementary triad of emerald green, terracotta red and ivory flank the main borders while emphasizing their decorative appeal.
