Antique Persian Serapi Carpet, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa date: 1900 — Like most Serapi carpets, this piece uses an elegantly understated degree of color to allow the craftsmanship in the shapes to shine through. Bright, pale gold stands out against the deep, dark cobalt, creating definition and contrast between the varying elements and motifs as they grace the carpet’s surface. Two thin, gold borders surround a larger blue frame, its interior featuring a collection of flowery medallions that are further framed by flowing, angular vines and leaves. At the core of the carpet is a series of flowing backgrounds, each appearing as tremendous blossoms that house their own floral scenes within.
