Rare and Beautiful Antique Portuguese Rug, Country of Origin: Portugal, Circa Date: 18th Century– A stylized field of daisies fills this antique Portuguese rug. Almost two dozen columns create a pattern of repeating flowers, each linked vertically with thin black line work in the form of a leafy vine. The rows of floral decorations alternate direction, facing first right and then left, and the color of the petals in each row rotates through a palette of yellow, blue, green and white. Curling leaves also shift in hue between rows. The background of this 18th century antique Portuguese rug is a stark white, allowing the angular pattern to be the primary focus. A slim border contains the antique rug, bearing two dark lines plaited around the field of flowers.
