Vintage Turkish Rug, Country of Origin: Turkey, Circa Date: Mid 20th Century – Here is an exciting and beautifully woven vintage rug – a vintage Turkish rug. This beautiful carpet was woven in Turkey during the middle years of the twentieth century and is a beautiful example of what Turkish rugs can achieve. Featuring an elevated, classical style design, this vintage carpet is a compelling example of that particular trend in mid-century weaving; that is to sat, it is an appealing example of a relatively newer carpet attempting to showcase the finer points of classical, antique rug weaving. Recalling the classic Ottoman Turkish court carpets of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, this magnificent vintage Turkish rug has an allover design of blue arabesque star medallions in staggered alternation with smaller blue medallions with indented diamond contours, all set against a warm red field. A profusion of flowering vines in ivory, saffron, and soft green fills the areas between the medallions. An angular arabesque vine scroll border on a red ground frames the field, enclosed by saffron minor borders that provide the requisite contrast. Rarely do Oushaks bring to life the greatness of their ottoman forerunners with such grace and panache.
