Antique Kerman Persian Rug 46637
Crafted in the early 19th century, this antique Kerman rug depicts soulful colors and regal Safavid-style decorations that have an evocative, powerful presence.
Antique Persian Kerman Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Early 19th Century – This outstanding antique Kerman rug displays a superb ‘Gol-o-Bolbol’ repeating pattern executed in a regal selection of clear, saturated colors that give the dramatic decorations a patrician Safavid appearance. Charming Bolbol nightingales facing graceful flower-laden shrubs are juxtaposed against strong boteh-shaped cypress trees that show the similarity between these auspicious symbols. Immensely detailed botanical motifs and sinuous vine scrolls create a beautifully meandering repeating pattern that is offset by the saturated ruby-red field. Crenellated fence outer borders, densely decorated guard bands and lush Persian blue borders filled with scarlet rosettes play off of the richly nuanced jewel-tone color palette and romantic symbolism of the ‘Gol-o-Bolbol’ archetype that appears throughout pre-Safavid art and literature.
