Beautiful and Finely Woven Antique Persian Tabriz Rug by Haji Jalili, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – Tabriz workshops were renowned for their ability to recreate the great masterpieces of classical Persian carpet weaving. In this lovely antique carpet we see again the classic garden carpets produced in Northwest Persia during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Two perpendicular borders intersect at the center, dividing the field into four quadrants like an actual Persian garden. Within these are rectangular compartments filled by cypress trees supporting animals and birds, each a little carpet of its own. Narrow borders continue the framing effect of those that divide the field. The soft, almost tone-on-tone coloration departs from classical precedent, but it makes this an outstanding decorative antique Persian Tabriz rug by Haji Jalili.
