A beautifully Casual Antique Persian Earth Tone Sultanabad Area Rug, Country Of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – This lavish antique rug — a beautiful Sultanabad from Persia made sometime toward the end of the nineteenth century — is a particularly majestic piece, even for a Sultanabad, which are known for their intricacy, beauty, and impeccable execution of design. This particular  Sultanabad features monumental allover design of palmettes, leaves, and flowers in gorgeous shades of gold, orange, pale blue, and ivory, all of which are brilliantly set against a sage green ground. Similar palmettes on a slightly smaller scale comprise the vine scroll border, but these are set against terracotta in contrast to the sage green field. Additional minor borders set on pale apricot reinforce the framing effect while still providing a gentle transition to the field. Overall, this is a Sultanabad represents an achievement in design and in execution, and is as remarkable to behold today as it must have been when it was first made — undoubtedly for someone with very discerning tastes.
