A truly lovely and brilliantly understated rug that also manages to be inviting and powerful, this gorgeous antique Savonnerie functions almost as a commentary of the tradition from which it was born. Red and golden-yellow tulips featuring delicately shaded petals and foliage create a winding, sinuous all-over pattern with a casual composition that allows the luxurious brown color background to show through. Golden-yellow borders that form a reciprocating chain pattern frame the superbly styled field. While this piece does not feature a more complex design like many other Savonneries, its unique charm makes it a distinctive piece that is a joy to behold.
