IN THE CONTEXT OF urban real estate, one-room living is rarely a fantasy—consider the overfilled studio apartment. But some of the chicest spaces are ones that combine all the functions of living, with intelligence and style. Case in point: this warm and eclectic loft by David Rockwell.
Who lives here? No one—yet. The space is one of the standouts of Hearst Magazines’ Designer Visions show house, staged in a turn-of-the-century New York factory building being converted into luxe condos with expansive loft-style layouts. The three apartments are a collaboration between each of Hearst’s shelter magazines and a star designer: Antony Todd curated a worldly scheme for Veranda, Matthew Patrick Smyth devised a masculine pied-à-terre for Elle Decor and Mr. Rockwell—known for his Broadway and Academy Awards sets—delivered this mise-en-scène for House Beautiful.
