Vintage Double Sided Swedish Kilim 48199

Size: 5 ft 4 in x 7 ft 7 in (1.63 m x 2.31 m)

The composition of the kilim is straightforward: several horizontal bands rendered in various shades of blue give the piece a sense of order, which the red band disrupts in an alluring manner.

Vintage Double-SidedSwedish Rug, Country of Origin: Scandinavia, Circa Date:  Mid-20th Century – Here is a comely and exciting vintage carpet – a double-sided Swedish kilim that was woven in Scandinavia during the middle years of the twentieth century. A true double-sided kilim, this charming example from Sweden beautifully illustrates some of the finer points of mid-century Scandinavian rug design. The composition of the carpet is relatively straightforward and uncluttered: consisting almost completely of several geometric figures rendered in various shades of blue, this carpet effectively functions as the summation of its constituent parts. All of the action in this mid-century kilim is horizontal: a variety of horizontal bands, some thick, some thin, some doubled up and some alone, serve as the primary focus for each side. Purple bands appear at the topmost and bottom most portions of the piece, framing the rest of the composition, which is primarily blue. A single band of a pale red runs on the horizontal in a slightly off-center position, nearer the top of the carpet. This creates a fascinating and energetic asymmetry that balances out the otherwise deliberate composition. A unique and appealing work, this mid-century Swedish kilim is an interesting example.
