Highly Artistic and Funky Purple Vintage Moroccan Runner Rug, Country of Origin / Rugs Type: Moroccan Rugs, Circa Date: Mid 20th Century

This vintage mid century modern rug uses bright red, purple and orange, against a border of brown that helps to define the space. Ivory and tan are used to highlight the elements and balance the tone of the other colors. The Moroccan runner rug has no apparent vertical or horizontal symmetry. It does have repeating motifs in the center that seem to repeat, but no discernible regularity is initially apparent.

The vintage Moroccan runner design relies on dividing the field into three separate columns. The middle column is the central focal point, surrounded by two almost mirror columns on either side. The unifying element of the Moroccan rug is the regular shapes in the brown edges that mirror each other. The other elements of the columns mirror each other in their use of rectangular form, but not in their choice of color.

The design structure and use of color in the rug give it an abstract feel and provide visual interest. Another interesting element of the rug is that the pile is cut to different heights in portion of the rug to bring out certain elements and makes them stand out.

This is a long narrow vintage runner rug from Morocco that would add a sense of depth and volume to a long narrow hallway, or it could be used to bring down the scale of larger room. It is a fascinating piece and would be an excellent mid-century addition in a contemporary, minimalist, or modern Scandinavian design.
