A strikingly modern design is set against a clear ivory ground on this rug designed by the noted Israeli architect Yakov Agam

Vintage Deco Rug by Yaacov Agam, Origin: Israel, Circa: Early 20th Century – A strikingly modern design reminiscent of Miro and Bolotovsky is set against a clear ivory ground on this vintage carpet designed by the noted Israeli architect Yaacov Agam, whose signature appears at the lower right. Circles and ovals intersect parallel bars with colors shifting as they overlap. Here the two dimensional realm of rug design merges with sculpture as portions of the bars bulge up into high pile half cylinders.

The information on the tag, on the back of the rug, reads as follows: This piece is an Artist Proof. Where it says “cut of” the inscription is not a number, it actually says “Nisayon” Which translates to Trial or Test. Our assumption is that they produced this piece as a test and we have no idea if they actually moved forward with the full edition so there is a good chance that this might be the only piece ever made. It was made in Israel, in 1978 (converted the Jewish year that is inscribed). It is also has signed by Agam with the Star Of David and next to the Jewish date it also indicates that it was made in Rehovot (I included a map of Israel and circled the city).
