Breathtaking Rare Gold Background Vintage Tribal Silk Caucasian Soumak, Country of Origin / Rug Type: Caucasian Rug, Circa Date: Mid – 20th Century – In this one incredibly exciting vintage mid century rug. The skill of its weaver speaks for itself and the intricate tribal geometric design is an excellent example of the artistry behind this breathtaking Caucasian Soumak.

Three beautiful 8 pointed stars line the central field of this magnificent Caucasian rug. Within each of these large blue star motifs we see 8 mirrored geometric animal while in the central white star we see only 4.

In addition to the animals contained within the 8 pointed stars, we see similar boldly rendered tribal geometric animal motifs that are roaming the bright happy yellow field of this silk Caucasian Soumak. The yellow ground itself depicts dozens of four legged creatures, small birds flowers and perhaps other creatures that are more subtly rendered.

While the yellow background gives the impression of dry sandy desert surroundings, the three stars in the middle give the feeling of as if they are oases of water. The desert oases is a sources of life which is why we see creatures congregating withing this enclosed design.

Encompassing the silk rug is a magnificent bold geometric and primitive border. The main border colors are rich vibrant graphic colorful tones that we do see in the field but only as small touches within the design. This mirrored affect crates a wonderful sense of completion and balance throughout this breathtakingly happy silk Caucasian Soumak.
