Vintage Turkish Kilim Rug, Country of Origin: Turkey, Circa Date: 20th Century — This lovely antique rug presents two geometric patterns on a field of black, rimmed by a pink border. Both patterns consist of three abstracted red rose florets highlighted with pink. They display intertwining light blue and white foliage, sporadically accented in vivid pink and red shades. Ornate spandrels mark a curving inner guard border which employs alternating narrow single and double strands of pink. The solid thick pink border displays a unifying motif of contrasting blue and bright red symbols in the shape of octothorpes. Beautiful, light weight Kilim Rugs such as this Turkish example in the past often served as wall hangings in homes in Turkey, Persia and parts of the Caucasus.
