Vintage Caucasian Kazak Rug, Country of Origin: Caucasus, Circa Date: 20th Century– The creamy body of this vintage Caucasian rug is decorated with three banners aligning along the vertical, the outer two nearly identical. Rendered in a dark brown for contrast, the linework of the Kazak design forms a number of eight-pointed stars stacked over each other. A lighter brown and a faint echo of blue fill some of the shapes, drawing the eye to each. Deft, dark stitches enclose each outer column with banners exhibiting geometric edging. Mathematically perfect figures float above and below the central patterning. Several nestled borders enclose the antique rug, each decorated with looping vines, jagged triangles, angular flowers and stars.
