Antique Tabriz Rug, Country Of Origin: Persia, circa date: 1900 – Four elaborate arabesque palmettes in pale aubergine combine within a tan diamond-shaped contour to comprise the central medallion on this superior antique Tabriz. Scalloped corner pieces with similar detail correspond to the central medallion, while delicate sprays of flowering vines and branches swirl across the field in between. Serial palmette cartouches comprise the border, reversing the subtle color contrasts of the field. While the design is almost dazzlingly complex, it is mollified by the tone-on-tone coloration to achieve a more neutral decorative effect.
