Antique Kurdish Runner from Persia, late nineteenth century – This outstanding antique Kurdish village weaving has the graphic power and charm of the Gabbeh rugs from further South in Persia. A series of diamond medallions in blue, runs the length of the soft red field. Within and without small circular or octagonal motifs fill the empty spaces, imparting a lively dynamic quality to the entire design. An inner border of zigzags frames the field, surrounded by an outer one of octagons with stars like those of the field. The overall palette of rich yet soft colors – blues, golds, and reds – is classically Kurdish.
