Large Antique Khotan Rug, Origin: East Turkestan, Circa: 1900 – Here is a beautiful antique Oriental rug – an antique Khotan rug woven by the great rug-makers of East Turkestan. This impressive piece is primarily characterized by its muted, almost monochromatic composition, which features a broad, pale plum field, minimally adorned, and an elaborate pale-hued border. Rugs such as this remarkable composition are noteworthy for the fascinating manner in which their monochromatism interacts with and comments upon the detail work within the piece. In the case of this particular rug, the effect is one of unity and balance: for just as the weavers of this exemplary carpet opted to forego a wide-ranging palette of colors, so too did they decide to forego excessive and elaborate ornamentation, instead opting to present the piece as a study in minimalism. A graceful central medallion with the figure of a bird sits in the center of the piece, carefully surrounded by a series o similar figures, simply presented and understated. A beautiful minimal composition with both traditional and modern day appeal, this gorgeous Khotan rug from East Turkestan is a splendid example and a  noteworthy composition.
