Beautiful With A Larger Scale More Primitive Design Antique Oushak Turkish Rug Runner Rug, This Antique Oushak Rug Was Woven In: Turkey, The Circa Date Is: 1900 – What first grabs the viewer’s eye on this antique Turkish rug are the five geometric stars woven into the center. Though the stars in this tribal antique Turkish Oushak rug may at first seem similar to each other at first glance, each of them has unique variations that add character to the final design. The stars are bordered by an orange flame-like design, making it seem as though they are burning brightly in a strip of night sky.

The border of the wide hallway rug itself is composed of three linear sections, each housing a series of diamonds, arranged diagonally in an alternating fashion. This geometric pattern is reminiscent of the leaves of a vine, or perhaps the waves of the ocean.

Around the stars are a variety of geometric rug designs reminiscent of flowers and other foliage, giving this rug a feeling of abundance. The orange color may remind the viewer of fall and of a successful harvest. The stars themselves are also rather reminiscent of flora, with petal-like diamonds and a vine-like border. The designs may cause one to imagine the night sky above a vineyard or a series of blue and orange flowers sprinkled on a field.

The simple yet sunny color scheme and use of complementary colors make the design pop. The bright, fiery orange that dominates the rug is tempered by the muted blue that forms much of the detail work. It is this contrast that forms much of the drama of the rug’s design, as if blue water has been splashed on a bright orange blaze. This contrast only serves to make the detailed design of the rug more evident, however, and as such what stands out is the stylized depiction of flora: a woven ode to the beauty of nature.
