Beautiful Brown Antique Persian Sultanabad Area Rug, Country Of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1900 – This gorgeous earthy brown antique Persian Sultanabad rug was created at the turn of the 20th century. It features a unique design with motifs that you do not often find in the antique rugs from Sultanabad. The rug was created during a time when the Persian rug industry was undergoing a revival after a period of decline. It was during this time that several master weavers came together in an attempt to recreate the Golden Age of Persian rug weaving. They were inspired by the masterpieces created by the Court master weavers of the Safavid Dynasty.

These Persian rug weavers took the traditional designs and reimagined them into some of the most magnificent works of art the world had ever seen. This beautiful brown color area rug is a fine example of their artistry and skill. The center of the design is a medallion, only the traditional medallion design has been replaced by a stylized version under herati, This design means “fish” and references the water element. The stylized floral elements resemble lilies or water flowers. The brown color of this magnificent brown antique Persian Sultanabad rug s reminiscent of the earth.

As you can see, there is much more below the surface of this roughly 12’x15′ size area rug, and it holds a significant meaning that was inspired by the beautiful formal courtyard gardens and reflecting pools that surrounded the ancient palaces. The design of the rug is complex with larger motifs forming a formal design and smaller motifs within them that create a pattern within a pattern effect. This shows a mastery of artistic technique that is found in few pieces. This gorgeous, garden-inspired piece is unique in the world of Persian rugs and would make an excellent addition to any collection or formal setting in your home or office.
