Art Galleries to see in New York this Fall

Nazmiyal’s list of art galleries that are transcending through the season.

Fall is the season for art. The hues are melting from green to orange to yellow. After enjoying the beauty outside, step into these art galleries to check out fascinating, revolutionary art all throughout the season.

Kai Althoff: And Then Leave Me To The Common Swifts

Althoff will be featured in the Museum of Modern Art, now through till Jan 22, 2017.

MOMA is the home of many modern artists, previously hosting a number of paintings by Andy Warhol. This season, MOMA will be featuring Kai Althoff, a multimedia artist and a painter from Germany. Kai works with a mix of cloths, paint, installations and textile art to convey beautiful imaginary scenarios. Using past experiences and history as influence, his works suggest themes of early modern expressionism and haunting reminiscences of the past. A great gallery for Halloween enthusiasts.

Carmen Herrera: Lines of Sight

9 of Herrera’s extraordinary paintings will be featured at the Whitney Museum of American Art from Sep 16, 2016 – Jan 2, 2017.

Carmen Herrera is a geometric abstractionist painter that works with great precision. Born in Havana, she moved to New York in the 1940’s, and after 60 years of painting privately, her work was discovered in 2004 and brought to recognition. Lines of Sight will be Herrera’s first exhibition in over two decades. The chosen work, such as Blanco Y Verde pictured below, features and highlights the development of Herrera’s style in abstractism and her experiments in figure and ground.

Agnes Martin

Check out Agnes Martin’s minimalistic work in the Guggenheim, Oct 7 2016 – Jan 11, 2017.

One of the most important women artists and painters, Agnes Martin is a pivotal figure in minimalism and abstract expressionism. Silence inspires her work, famously quoting: “My paintings are not about what is seen. They are about what is known forever in the mind.” and that is true in her most famous painting: The Tree, a blank canvas with subtle grids symbolizing unity and innocence.
