Rare Antique Angora Oushak Rug, Country of Origin: Turkey, Circa Date: Turn of the 20th Century – Here is a unique and fascinating antique Oriental rug – an antique Angora Turkish Oushak rug, hand-woven by the great tug-makers of Turkey around the turn of the twentieth century. This distinct antique rug is primarily characterized by its unusual composition, which is decidedly and dramatically asymmetrical. This asymmetry, while certainly curious, is not necessarily as unusual as one might be inclined to believe – for a great many traditional rug weavers believed symmetry to be a uniquely godlike quality; as such, rugs were woven with intentionally asymmetric layouts as a sign of piety and penitence. The effect of this deliberate asymmetry is interesting to observe – for it is both surprising and intriguing, unexpected and grabbing.

The beautiful detailed elements that dance throughout the field pull the observer in for a closer look, a closer look that reveals further details, and the unique, appealing texture of the angora. The Angora wool gives it a silk-like luxurious look and feel and the design is simply magnificent. Also, it is in good condition and could take daily traffic and use with no problem.

What this piece lacks in size, it more than makes up for in every other way imaginable. The open and tribal non-symmetrical design is one of the most interesting and facilitating ones to have been created. Folk art in every way, this is not a typical piece in any way. The colors are just so perfectly combined, the design is so interesting and the texture unique – it is like someone created it over 100 years ago, especially for today’s market. That said, perhaps that is the sign of a truly great work of art – it is as awesome today as the day it came off the loom.
