Faded Tribal Decorative Antique Washed Out Oushak Rug, Country of Origin: Turkey, Circa Date: First Quarter of the 20th Century – The sun kissed, delicate and faded nature of this antique Turkish Oushak carpet from the early part of the 20th century gives the impression of a faded tribal work art. The weavers of of antique Turkish rugs in the city of Oushak were located in western Anatolia and were influenced by Turkish designers, Persian rugs and local, tribal designs. The result was often a unique selection of carpets that are unlike any others found in the world.

This soft and faded decorative rug uses only soft washed out color to define the shapes and motifs within it. It uses a simple color palette than one typically finds an Oushak, consisting of browns, ivory, and rusty salmons.

It shows the design characteristics of an antique rug that was produced in the weaving schools and formal carpet weaving centers established around Oushak. It also shows the willingness of Oushak designers to stray from established conventions of artistic design. This is an exceptionally decorative piece in its use of only soft faded tribal patterns.

This soft, light color and faded decorative antique Turkish Oushak rug sparks the imagination and would pair well with almost any furniture style from contemporary to traditional. It would be an exceptional piece for a room filled with natural materials, or more elaborate styles, too. This captivating piece is gentle and pleasing to the eye. It is the perfect piece for transforming the space into a beautiful sanctuary.

It is an absolutely charming antique rug – an antique Oushak rug, woven in Turkey around the turn of the twentieth century. Perennially among the most popular antique Oriental rug styles, antique Turkish carpets from Oushak are prized by collectors and by designers for their powerfully ephemeral beauty. Often, though by no means all the time, antique Oushak carpets from this period feature exceedingly low-contrast color pallets, wherein the detail work throughout the carpet almost blends into the field and the borders.

This particular example is a brilliant manifestation of this particular aesthetic proclivity, featuring a pale, pale gold coloration allover, with the detail work rendered in such a similar hue that, upon first glance, this Oushak rug appears to be a solid yellow rectangle. Therein lies the magic of this low-contrast approach: for the fainter the detail work, the more inviting the carpet, which pulls in observers, who cannot help but take a closer look.
