Vibrant and exciting, this antique Melas rug from Turkey delights with its energetic pallet and its traditional composition.
Antique Turkish Milas Rug, Origin: Turkey, Circa: 1920’s – Here is a captivating and impeccably woven antique Oriental rug – an antique Melas carpet that was woven in Turkey during the early decades of the twentieth century. Vibrant and exciting, this antique Milas rug from Turkey delights with its energetic pallet and its traditional composition. Presented in a series of stacked rectangles, this Melas rug is proportioned beautifully throughout. An outer border surrounds the perimeter of the carpet, the small but detailed floral elements that fill it giving it a sense of dynamism. The primary border is large but simpler: fiery red and decorated with a single simple vine scroll, upon which geometric floral details are woven. A larger than average inner border occurs next: this is decorated with a tangle of knotted vine scrolls. Next comes the field: here, set against a relatively muted shade of brown-green, a series of comely floral details unfolds. A pair of hexagonal figures stacked vertically give the entire carpet a deep sense of geometry. Beautifully woven, this antique Milas carpet from Turkey is an excellent example.
