Antique Turkish Silk Garden of Paradise Rug, Country of Origin: Turkey, Circa Date: Early 20th Century — This outstanding silk garden of paradise Turkish Rug reflects incredible care and attention to fine detail in its design and composition. It depicts a garden scene, revealing four magnificent forest settings, or perhaps the same one, at different periods of growth? The rug displays minutiae, such as the leaves on the trees and the differently colored feathers and markings on birds populating the branches and underbrush. The field appears at one time to have been gold in color, although visible fading has occurred. Brilliant brown, green, yellow, red, ivory, black and blue colors permeate the visual imagery. A broad ivory border on this rug contains connecting long black and rounder gold medallions. Golden writing across the black medallions suggests this may have been an item associated with prayer; an entwining vine motif, perhaps signifying the interconnectedness of life, scrolls throughout the border. Two elegant decorative guard borders set against a black background present brilliantly colored red and gold scrolling motifs.
