Antique Persian Tree of Life Rascht Embroidery, Country Of Origin: Persia, Circa date: 1850 – Here is an impressive and beautiful antique Persian embroidery – an antique Tree of Life Rascht Embroidery, woven in Persia during the middle decades of the nineteenth century. A lovely example of a unique and storied style of weaving, this Rascht Embroidery boasts an elaborate and elegant pattern throughout, from the borders to the meticulously woven field. Woven in a square format, the composition of this embroidery plays out as a series of concentric rectangular spaces, with an elaborate series of inner and outer borders. A narrow band of red surrounds the perimeter of the piece, followed by a series of borders: a pair of narrower inner and outer borders, and a bold and broad primary border. Within this primary border, an elaborate interplay of floral elements wraps around a series of elegant flowing vine scrolls. Small patches of red on either vertical side interrupt the design briefly, giving the borders a sense of discontinuity and abstraction. Within the field, a beautiful tree of life is practically bursting with floral details. Small animal figures stand by its base, appearing to guard it. Magnificently wrought, this 19th century Persian Rascht Embroidery is an excellent example.
