This Persian carpet uses a delicate and highly detailed, design to create an effect that is awe-inspiring and takes your breath away when you first view it. This level of intricacy can only be achieved through an exceptionally fine weave and high knot count. Tabriz was once the center of carpet weaving and was established in the 1500’s as it means to increase the economic wealth of the Safavid rulers. They established formal schools to train artists to produce works for use in the courts and public spaces. In the early 1700’s, the power of the dynasty faded, and so did the tradition of fine carpet weaving. During the late 1800’s, a group of weavers decided to revive the industry, drawing on many of the traditional weaving techniques used by their predecessors several centuries ago.

This antique carpet is the result of the efforts of this group of artists to revive the Golden Age of Persian carpet weaving. The colors come together in a way that creates a refined elegance. The piece uses a repeated motif that resembles the tile work found in the palaces and public spaces of Iran and throughout the Middle East. These carpets were created to complement the architectural style and to increase this sense of awe and spaciousness of the area.

This is a beautiful piece that continues to lend itself to the creation of a sense of the sublime in any space that it occupies. It has a transcendent quality that it will carry into the rest of the room. It would be the perfect piece for a traditional design where it will add a sense of refinement and elegance to the design.

This antique Persian rug is awash in wheaten shades of gold over cream with red and brown accents, creating a theme reminiscent of a late summer harvest. Flowers in a numberless multitude spill over the body of the warm-toned Haji Jalili Tabriz rug, arranged into a repeating pattern with a theme of crosses surrounded by curling decorations. Feathery shapes flank dark, circular flowers aligned throughout the pattern, all detailed with precise stitches in rich hues. The elaborate central field is enclosed by a thin band with a golden chain-like decoration against a darker shade. Matching bars punctuate the set of borders, setting off slightly wider bands with a brown and white brocade pattern around a wide border studded with ornate floral medallions in this truly breathtaking antique rug.
