Beautiful Large Oversized Rust Color Antique Sultanabad Rug,  Country of Origin / Rug Type: Antique Persian Rug, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – This elegant, rich antique Sultanabad carpet was created in the last decades of the 19th century. Sultanabad is located in the modern town of Arak, which is a traditional industrial center of Iran. The carpet weavers of Sultanabad did not become major producers until the early 1800s, but their unique carpets became a favorite, and they remain so today.

One of the reasons why Sultanabad carpets became favorites among designers is that they can complement either a formal or a more casual setting. The rich reds and deep midnight blues of this carpet give it an elegant character. Yet, the shades of browns and ivory give it a distinct earthiness.

The Persian carpet uses an allover design that gives it a casual character and a tribal feel that would be the perfect touch to a Boho chic design or an informal room design. It would be perfectly at home in a room with vibrant colors and layered textures. The design has many of the traditional formal designs and motifs found in the formal carpets of the weaving centers, such as the palmette, cloud bands, and an abundant garden of plant life. They are carried out in a simple fashion that gives the carpet a more rustic quality.

The brilliant red of the antique carpet is created using a unique dye technique where the spun yarn is soaked in madder and whey for two days. This unique red color is another characteristic that makes Sultanabad carpets popular among collectors and designers. This is an elegant and versatile piece for any space that could use a piece with vibrant colors and a casual feel.
