Beautiful All Over Design Large Antique Ivory Background Persian Ziegler Sultanabad Rug, Country Of Origin / Rug Type:  Antique Persian Rug, Circa Date: Late 19th Century by Ziegler – One may well marvel at the exquisite rendering of the many-petaled blossoms in the field of this grand antique Persian Sultanabad rug. Each flower is attached to energetic vines that gently twist and curve throughout the design. The border and corners provide excellent contrast with the pale open field. A very narrow outside border, totally devoid of decoration, provides a measure of repose and quiet transition at the edges of the antique rug. On an ivory field are colors of pale terracotta, brick, khaki, camel, sand, cinnamon, teal, and black, with a border and corner panels rendered in soft terracotta.

This spectacular antique Persian Ziegler Sultanabad rug features a light and airy garden design. Sultanabad was formerly known as the city of Arak, and in the 1800’s, it became a significant center for carpet production. This antique rug is formal and sophisticated as a result of careful attention to symmetry and a precisely divided geometric field.

The backgrounds of the borders and corners contrast with the ivory background of the field, which makes each of the elements stand out. This carpet uses the geometric shapes in the rug to make it appear layered, with the border being the first layer. The field seems to be behind the others. This was done through color and a solid inner edge on the border. This optical illusion makes the borders of the rug appear to be a frame around the central design.  The magnificent antique Persian rug uses a wide range of colors and layering to give it a quality that is almost three dimensional.

The masterful design of the captivating rustic rug is based on a medallion and is divided into quarter panels. This gives the antique Oriental rug both vertical and horizontal symmetry and contributes to the formality and balance of the design. The layered appearance of the rug is reminiscent of layers of drapery on a window. The design is carried out with precision, making it an excellent example of the work produced by Sultanabad weavers. It would add a formal quality to any room in the home or office and will be a treasured piece.
