Antique Persian Sultanabad Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Early 20th Century– Over a field of rusty brown color, stylized white flowers spread over the central body of this Persian rug. Their forms are emphasized with yellow and black, creating details and shading for many of the ornate figures. The pattern is symmetrical about the long axis, and the filigreed shapes along that center line are wreathed with feathery fronds. A black band borders the rectangular piece of the Sultanabad, its width occupied by more white blossoms touched with red-brown and yellow accents, balancing the main pattern and linked together by twining stems that sprout small leaves. This rug’s large border is itself edged with smaller bars of white filled with a linked oval decoration.
