Antique Persian Flat Woven Mazandaran Kilim Rug, Origin: Persia (modern day country of Iran), Circa: Early 20th Century – Like the antique tribal Gabbeh rugs or Morocco’s famous  Beni Ourain carpets, this antique Persian Mazandaran kilim rug has the sophistication and inherent modernism of rustic and primitive designs that skillfully balance form and function. Sedimentary tones of earthy beige and brown conjure images of Caspian sand plains, russet sea birds and travertine cliffs. Two outer panels featuring symmetric groups of abrashed bands and small-scale supporting lines embrace the dark walnut-tone centerpiece while emphasizing the powerful visual relationship between negative and positive space. Within the central panel of this antique Persian kilim, double-stripe accents sit above a richly colored earthen ground that displays a fantastic assortment of wood-grain stripes, including pale birch tones, warm mahogany hues and cool walnut browns. This rich assortment of earthy colors and multi-width stripes creates a spectacular result when juxtaposed in the three-panel composition.
