Antique Tribal Persian Malayer Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: First Quarter of the 20th Century – This archetypal village carpet from the famed city of Malayer, pairs the style and precision of city carpets with quirky details and abrashed surfaces that give the creation a rustic flavor. Soft, earthy colors beloved by decorators appear in the warm leaf-filled guard-bands and reciprocating main borders that are adorned with articulate palmettes. The stormy slate-gray field displays a nuanced abrash that’s balanced by the strong allover pattern of precisely arranged Herati motifs that display characteristic lozenge-shaped centers and feathered leaflets. Contrasting outlines define each botanical ornament and offset the low-chroma motifs that are colored in soft hues of terra cotta, oxidized blue and dusky brown. Speckled botehs, divided lozenge motifs and hidden symbols infuse the traditional pattern with rustic details beloved in the rugs of Malayer.
