Antique Persian Malayer Runner Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1900 — Individual carpet weavers were prolific in Mayaler, a city located between Sarouk and Hamadan, in Iran. The range of styles and design characteristics that are displayed on Mayaler rugs is vast, and each specimen is a high artistic achievement. The primary, central panel of this ornamental runner exhibits a repetitive pattern of circular motifs, each one with a projecting piece. These emblems, typical of Malayer rugs, are likely representations of a sprouting seed. The tan decorative elements are set against a deep, dark background, which provides a striking contrast. A large leaf-like medallion is woven into the center of the composition, creating a strong focal point. Shaded hues, pinkish brown and other soft pastels are exhibited in the beautiful corner units of this lovely Persian rug, with floral and organic decorations that seem to tell a story. Exquisite vinery surrounds the antique rug within a fine frame around the border.
