Antique Khorassan Persian Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1900 – This beautiful Persian antique rug is as magnificent as it is thought-provokingly straightforward in design. The field of this stately antique Khorassan consists only of open, subtly abrashed reddish terracotta pile. The ornament is restricted entirely to the borders with their finely detailed designs. The largest or main border is a linear excerpt of a classic Herati design. Set against a deep blue ground it provides a nice accent within the golden borders, and they all provide a lovely contrast to the soft redness of the field. More than anything, this rug offers a glimpse into the minimal side of antique Persian rugs. A side that, while not often seen, offers a world of treasure and beauty.
