Small Scatter Size Antique Persian Kerman Lavar Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – The antique Persian Lavar rug is a beautiful tapestry like small scatter size carpet, abounding with layers of bright colors, vines and floral motifs. Each design, even each flower, is slightly different. From the size and shape of each petal, to the placement along the vines, these unique designs show the careful craftsmanship that went into creating each gorgeous detail.
The antique Persian Kerman rug’s intricate border, at the outermost edge, bears a simple black motif of blunt-tipped arrows, before dipping down to a crawling vine with simple, chrysanthemum-like flowers. Below, lush, pale flowers interchange with sturdy stalks and broad leaves. An unexpected blue green touch on the geometric petals of a poppy-red flower, perhaps a lotus or a water-lily, lights up the next row of flowers. The pale flowers return as the final section of the Persian rug’s border, like a carefully curated palace garden.
Once past the outer edge, the center of the antique Orinetal rug opens up with dazzling, sumptuous orange-red flowers trailing around the central motifs, interspersed with simpler dark and light pointed florets. Each interior corner is guarded by a serpentine boundary. Inside each boundary, a jagged overlay of squares encloses a delicate cross, flanked on the by two small structures, resembling little soldiers or Oriental pagodas.
At the heart, two dark medallions encompass the center one, all three confined with a similar sinuous border as the corners. A symmetrical flowering tree lies in each, with the roots of both pointed to the center medallion. This center point is the same brilliant vermilion as the surrounding flowers, and is the focus of the whole antique rug, like a central fountain in a secluded garden.
