Antique Persian Kerman Carpet, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Final Quarter of the Nineteenth Century – Extraordinarily complex and masterfully woven throughout, this remarkable Kerman carpet is replete with gorgeous depictions of human figures, animals, and nature, making it a truly singular work. Surrounding the composition of this exciting and artistic antique Persian rug is a series of five rich borders, framed on the outermost by a simple and narrow band of red. Each of these five borders features an elaborate procession of richly detailed figures. In the outermost such border, a pale ivory band, is filled with a procession of animals: goats, horses, rabbits, bulls and more dance throughout. The next border, a rich shade of red, is similarly decorated, though this border features human figures as well as animals and tress. Next in this antique Kerman carpet is the widest of the five borders, a brown band, features horseman and Persian lions, as well as beautifully symmetrical trees. The outer borders of red and ivory are repeated on the opposite side of this large brown border, giving the arrangement a symmetrical quality. These rich and ornate by borders beautifully set the stage for the rest of the carpet, contained within the field: for this large expanse of ivory is liberally populated by a wide range of similar plant, animal and human figures. Arranged in a pleasing symmetrical fashion, this conflation of elements includes mounted horsemen, meditating mystics, mythical animals and real animals, as well as a gorgeous splay of richly detailed floral elements. A truly exciting work of art, this antique Kerman carpet is a genuine masterpiece and a singular example.
