Antique Persian Serapi Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – From the precise floral decorations to the richly nuanced colors, this awe-inspiring antique Serapi rug stands out among a region beloved for its quality and decorative finesse. In an archetypical manner, this antique rug features an exemplary octofoil medallion accompanied by dramatic angular botanical motifs and elegant turtle-and-vine scroll borders. The crisp designs have a bold visual impact thanks to their decisive form and detail-oriented execution, which includes astonishing hair’s breadth outlines and minute symbolic decorations. The elegant designer’s triad of warm, cool and neutral is clear, subtly varied and displays a distinguished patina. Beautifully drawn turtle-and-vine scroll borders, which are a Heriz specialty, complete the formal composition of this exemplary antique northwest Persian carpet which happens to be a phenomenal example in pretty much every way imaginable.

Quality – This is one of the most finely woven pieces of its kind I have seen (most will have a much coarser and looser weave).

Colors – The combination of colors are just so perfectly selected and give it a real happy yet calm look and feel.

Condition – It is in such excellent condition that whoever had it, must have treated it with so much love.

Size – This size it extremely rare – most will be 9 x 12 or 10 x 14 but hardly ever do you see them as long and narrow as this.

Pattern – The openness of the pattern gives it a real sense of movement. It also features some phenomenal talisman symbols that are so whimsical and innocent.

When you take all the above into consideration, it seems that it was made for someone who wanted this piece specifically – it simply must have been a custom order as this would have been far more expensive to weave and they would not sink in so much extra time and money unless they already had a buyer for it.
