Antique Persian Serapi Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: Late 19th Century – While the weaver wool, and palette of this magnificent carpet show that it is from Heriz, its design is exceptional among carpets of this type. This Persian rug, more reminiscent of a Serapi or perhaps a Farahan, the field has a monumental medallion design with corner-pieces, all filled with arabesque vine-scroll ornamentation. The ‘turtle’ vine-scroll border is beautifully rendered on a finer scale that contrasts nicely with the monumentality of the field. Despite the eclectic aspect of the design, the crisp, animated drawing and beautiful coloration are classic Serapi.
