Antique Persian Tribal Afshar Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: Turn of the 20th Century – Here is a remarkable, eye-catching antique rug – a tribal antique Persian Afshar rug that was woven in Persia around the turn of the twentieth century. This attractive piece is resplendent with detail over every inch of its fifteen square feet of surface. At the center of the field stands a series of geometric medallions, roughly rectangular and connected by a series of thin bars. Similar bars extend outward from each of the individualized medallions, acting as terminating appendages. This action is framed delightfully by a deep blue field, which is characterized by a particularly fetching patina, and an extraordinary crowding of rich tribal elements of design. Geometrically composed birds and floral elements are peppered throughout the blue field, seemingly radiating outward from the medallions. A similarly richly detailed series of borders ties together the composition, leaving the observer with the impression of rich tribal aesthetics, as well as a complex balance of serenity and intrigue.
