Antique Mongolian Carpet, 1920 — The muted tones present throughout this antique carpet speak volumes for the composition within. The piece is defined by its single ashy brown hue, with contrast and movement created according to lighter tones of that same color. A lightly colored border is present at the center of the piece, meant to draw attention more than convey limits to the arrangement within. That border acts as a window and a framework, from which an elegant cherry blossom tree sprouts and grows. A starry, almost ethereal quality is present in this work as flowers, pollen and butterflies float along the background outside of the border of this Mongolian rug.
