Beautiful And Artistic Antique Pictorial Dome Of The Rock Design Israeli Marbediah Rug, Country of Origin / Rug Type: Israeli Rug, Circa Date: 1920 – Stunning details work takes central stage within the subdued earth tones of this antique Israeli Marbediah rug. This Israeli rug is a small artistic piece of history depicts the iconic holy site of Dome Of The Rock which is located in Jerusalem Israel.

As if to confuse us a bit, the artist behind the creation of this magnificent antique rug included two palm trees that flank the Dome Of The Rock. These palm tree are a staple of the holy land landscape but are not there in real life. Their beautiful towering presence are a fun, curious and interesting additions.

Above the arch, right before the top border, we see a multitude of Jewish Menorahs. These soft colored Menorahs are diagonally lined up as if radiating in a circular fashion outwards from some secret genesis point that must be located behind the center of this rug.

The bottom of this Judaica carpet is signed Marbediah (which is the name of the workshop where it was woven) Jerusalem (the location where both Marbediah as well as the Dome Of The Rock are located) with two Jewish alphabet letters – Aleph and Yud – in between these two words (the combination of these two letters is an alternate reference to God).

The border of this Israeli Marbediah rug contains rectangular banners. Perhaps intended to be a wedding gift, these banners are filled with written the text that is recited during a Jewish wedding from the book of Psalm 137:5-6:

“If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
let my right hand forget its skill!
Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth,
if I do not remember you,
if I do not set Jerusalem
above my highest joy!”

This choice of prayer adds to the wonderful sense of calm, joy and a hopeful future that this pictorial rug exudes.

While many chose to display this magnificent piece as a wall hanging tapestry rug, it could just as easily be used on the floor as beautiful decorative antique area rug. Regardless of how one chooses to display this Israeli Marbediah rug , it is sure to add sense of history and beauty to any interior design.
