Antique Indian Amritsar Rug, Country of Origin: India, Circa Date: 1920– Like many other beautiful antique Indian Amritsar rugs, this one uses simple colors in a contrasting palette to convey more complicated motifs and forms. Cream, taupe and crimson stand against each other in a complex dance of floral elements and twisting vines. Two smaller borders frame a single central large one, resulting in a regal appearance. At the rug’s core, all of the flowing motifs come together in a delightful flurry of motion. Numerous flowing stems and vines that bear their own delicate leaves and flowers create a network of movement, taking the viewer on a visual journey around the field.
