Antique Wilton English Arts and Crafts Rug 2657
This lovely antique antique Wilton carpet is the epitome of taste and elegance.
Antique Wilton English Rug, Country Of origin: England, Circa Date: Early 20th century – This lovely antique rug — a stately Wilton carpet made in England some time during the early years of the twentieth century — is a truly impressive rug, and a piece that speaks very articulately to the culture that was responsible for producing it. This beautiful rug is the epitome of taste and elegance. Coming out of the British Arts and Crafts movement, it evokes the graceful floral designs of William Morris wallpapers and textiles from the later nineteenth century, although in a softer palette more appropriate to modern decor. The effect of the design is heightened by the luminous quality of the yellows and the lustrous sheen of the wool. As is the case with the large Wilton carpets, they were woven in strips and then sewn together to create the complete piece. A piece that is both a stand alone work of art and a virtual commentary on the aesthetic ideals of early twentieth century England, this is a truly magnificent rug in every sense.
