Antique East Turkestan Khotan Rug, Country of Origin: East Turkestan, Circa Date: Early 20th Century– Khotan is an oasis in Eastern Turkestan. It is also an ancient design center. Rugs woven there have distinct patterns and medallions. One of the most traditional is the pomegranate, seen in stylized form on the overall medallion theme of this beautiful rug. Woven in the late 18th and the 19th century, these rugs are crafted to be a “marriage” of Chinese and western oriental cultures; they feature rich Chinese patterns merging into the abstract geometrics that originated in the western orient. Because of this, they fit well into modern décor. This rug is 6 ft. 6 inches by 9 ft. or 1.98 by 2.74 meters.
