Antique East Turkestan Khotan Rug, Origin: East Turkestan, Circa: 1900 – Representing an elegant marriage of East and West, this distinguished antique Khotan rug has a traditional medallion composition with loosely spaced rounded orbs and floating rosettes that are placed over a luxurious apricot field. Spiraling fretwork spandrels infuse the composition with Oriental influences while spiraling rosettes and star-like blossoms represent regional iconography. Weighted inner borders embellished with rosettes and reciprocating cloudband leaves wind around the perimeter of the composition on this beautiful antique rug and support the decorative main borders, which feature an iconic pattern of scrolling hooks, ram’s horn devices and ruyi clouds that pay homage to Buddhist traditions. Strong walnut-brown accents and powdery blue motifs create a bold effect when paired with the delicate camel browns and buff apricot hues that exude an aura of Eastern elegance.
