Antique Chinese Rug, Origin: China, Circa: Early 20th Century – This remarkable antique rug — a Chinese piece from the early twentieth century — is an absolutely brilliant example of the tradition in which it was made. Its central field is woven with a beautifully mesmerizing all-over vine-scroll pattern, done in an elegant, tone-on-tone color palette, the subtle contrasting of which is inviting and intriguing. Each spiraling tendril in the field of this rug is heavily decorated with classic lanceolate leaves and lovely star-like flowers. The field is surrounded by a wide apricot and cocoa-brown border which is beautifully decorated with cartouches and potted Tree of Life motifs. These motifs are detailed with fretwork branches and tonal outlines of a gorgeous dark brown and gold palette that add to the traditional aesthetic.
