Antique Chinese Dragon Rug, Country of Origin: China, Circa Date: Turn of the Twentieth Century – Featuring a classical Chinese pallet of ivory blue, this beautifully designed rug is notable for its menagerie of dragons, which appear throughout the entire composition. A solid border of dark blue runs along the perimeter of this antique Chinese carpet, framing it in a calm and delicate manner. The primary border, meanwhile, is crowded with beautiful depictions of dragons. In the horizontal portions both at the top and the bottom, a pair of dragons face one another, a traditional Chinese symbol between them. The vertical portions, meanwhile, feature three majestic dragons apiece. This brings the running total to ten beautiful dragons – but there are still more. Within the large and open blue field, a single dragon appears in each corner, effectively serving as a corner piece. Finally, within the center, a pair of tightly entwined dragons form a central medallion. All together, sixteen imperial five-clawed dragons inhabit this beautiful carpet, infusing it with a deep sense of power and cultural significance. A beautiful work, this antique Chinese dragon carpet is a truly exceptional example.
