Small Antique Caucasian Shirvan Rug 50044
Antique Caucasian Shirvan Rug, Country of Origin: Caucasian, Circa Date: 1900– Faded orange and cream hues dominate this small Caucasian rug, which features patterns set off in negative space by a slate gray shade. The central rectangular form prominently displays three octagons filled with radially symmetrical geometric designs flanked by columns of animals. These dark fields are surrounded by a zigzag-lined trim much like the frame of a shadow box. Above and below this area of the rug, additional dark strips each contain four medallions reminiscent of snowflakes, accented by small flowers and crosses. A series of borders encloses and unites this entirety, brown stitching over cream creating regular, repeating patterns. The Shirvan’s outermost border contains complex linear forms set off by boldly stitched bars.
