Beautiful Flat Woven Ivory Antique Square Tribal Caucasian Shahsavan Jajim, Country of origin / Rug Type: Antique Caucasian Rugs, Circa Date: 1920’s – This antique Caucasian Jajim represents the traditional art and life of a group of people from the Caucasus Mountains. Using a clean white ivory as the primary background color, this antique Caucasian Shahsavan rug contains panels of tiny symbols that have a special meaning to the people who created the tribal flat weave rug. One of the most unique features of the antique Caucasian rug is that it was created as a set of different panels that were then sewn together to the width needed to cover bed piles, floors, and treasures.

The weavers of the antique textile were a nomadic people and wove their pieces on narrow looms that could be easily transported. This extremely artistic tribal Kilim has no formal overall or consistent design and appears as if it could be read like a story, if one only knew the meanings of the symbols.

This magnificent tribal Caucasian Shahsavan Jajim does not have horizontal or vertical symmetry and draws the attention to the individual symbols and lines created by them. The symbols are executed using tones of brown, blue, and reds.

The square size Jajim has no formal design outline and each line has the appearance of being a spontaneous act of the weaver. This gives the Caucasian Jajim a decidedly abstract quality, making it versatile enough to be used in vintage mid century modern, traditional, and contemporary designs.

This is a beautiful artistic weaving for any collection and is made even more special when one understands the history of the people who created it. It could serve as the focal point, or as a supporting piece in any room design where it would add a subtle character and sense of warmth.
