This beautifully executed, highly unusual composition features a towering pillar of serrated medallions and alternating octagonal guls buttressed by bracketed parentheses that are filled with rectilinear garlands. This rare, wonderfully detailed stacked medallion is accompanied by a marvelous variety of traditional tribal symbols that encompass the region’s symbolic repertoire. Burdocks, scorpions, S-hooks and rosettes dot the inky black field along with charming herd animals.
